Sundak Beach

A. Overview

According to the story that developed in the community, the name Sundak began use after the beach is going battle between a dog and a hedgehog. The fight occurred because a dog who was starved by chance met a hedgehog. The hedgehog then chased and eventually fall prey to hungry dogs earlier. Over the incident, the owner of the dog often mentioned this as sundak beach. Sundak which is a blend of 'insurance' [dog in the Javanese language] and 'urchin' [thorn-skinned animals].

Since called sundak, this beach was starting to sound echo. Today, these natural attractions is the rage of the domestic and foreign tourists. Therefore, Sundak a mainstay of natural tourist sites Gunungkidul District Government, Province of Yogyakarta Special Region.

Although the object mainstay local governments, coastal environment is clean and well maintained is still managed by local people.

B. Privileges
Tourists will never refuse to say that Sundak and the environment is amazing. The beach itself, displaying Resik white sand and crystal clear sea water. Not to mention when visitors try to walk from shore to sea is relatively shallow so as far as 30 meters. Over there, there are rocks and a small row-biota hiding tiny marine biota.

There were hills rocks and limestone in the north coast with about 12 meters high. These hills behind the beaches and natural charms add elegance Sundak area. In one of these rocks hills are caves, in which there is a fresh-water wells into the water source population around.

Another attraction of this beach is the trees that make the cool sea breeze around the beach. In the afternoon, from beneath the trees, tourists can enjoy beautiful sunsets on the horizon of the Indian Ocean.

Sundak be in one area with many attractions in the District Gunungkidul beach. Thus, tourists who want to find a different beach atmosphere can move towards other locations. Several other beaches adjacent to Sundak is: Baron Beach, Beach Krakal, Kukup Beach, Beach Drini, and Coast Along.

C. Location
Administratively, Sundak entered in the Village Sidoharho, Sub Tepus, Gunungkidul District, Province of Yogyakarta Special Region.

D. Access
From Yogyakarta to the capital Gunungkidul District, Wonosari, tourists can ride the bus that departs from Terminal Giwangan Yogyakarta. Tourists can choose a mini bus or large buses with an average tariff USD 4000 [May 2008]. The journey took about 1 hour. Arriving in the City Wonosari, usually passenger buses will be deployed around Wonosari market or shopping area there. Then, look for a small bus to the beach or Krakal Baron. With menumpangi small bus, takes between 40 minutes-1 hour with the cost of USD 2500 [May 2008].

When tourists go from the center of Yogyakarta city directly to the beach with two-wheeled vehicles, journey takes about 2 hours.

E. Ticket Prices
When entering the beach area attractions in Gunungkidul, tourists have to pay USD $ 1500 per person in advance at the postal charges in the main road to the location. While Sundak when visiting, tourists are not subject to any fees, except for USD 1000 [May 2008] for the parking of vehicles.

F. Accommodation and Other Facilities
Because young Sundak as a tourist attraction, the inn's guests would not find in the coastal area. However, in some beaches on the west Sundak, namely Kukup Beach, Beach Krakal, or Baron Beach, tourists can find it easily. In some of these beaches, there are simple inns. Rents room per night was also relatively low, ie ranging between Rp 20,000-Rp 50,000 [May 2008]. In addition, visitors can rent a homestay in the surrounding region.

In addition, there are also shops for food for the tourists. In these places, taste the food in the coastal region is the taste of a variety of fish dishes.
